Leonora Solar Farm

MW Civil was engaged to deliver the civil, earthworks and infrastructure package for the Leonora Power Project, a hybrid renewable energy facility developed by Pacific Energy for Horizon Power in Western Australia’s Goldfields region.
Our scope included the construction of the solar farm and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) compound, together with all associated civil infrastructure required to support the facility. Works included bulk earthworks and engineered fill placement, reinforced concrete foundations, permanent access roads and pavements, culvert and drainage infrastructure, equipment hardstands and laydown areas, and final trimming and site preparation.
MW Civil delivered approximately 9,000 m³ of bulk earthworks and engineered fill, along with 300 m³ of reinforced concrete foundations, providing the civil platform for installing key renewable energy assets. The project also involved survey control and set-out, quality assurance and compliance testing, and as-constructed verification to ensure all works met the required engineering specifications.
Operating within a remote environment, the project required precise survey control, stringent quality assurance procedures and efficient construction sequencing to meet demanding engineering specifications and project delivery milestones. The completed facility incorporates a 2.4MW solar farm and 9.9MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), helping to reduce diesel consumption and increase renewable energy penetration for the Leonora community and surrounding Goldfields region.
This project demonstrates MW Civil’s capability to deliver complex renewable energy, power generation and remote infrastructure projects throughout regional Western Australia.
