MW Civil was contracted to deliver critical enabling works in support of the Cocos (Keeling) Islands Airfield Upgrade project, managing complex logistics and remote site conditions with precision and efficiency.

The works involved extensive site preparation, including clearing and grubbing, topsoil removal, and foundation excavation, as well as the construction of the Stilling Basin Laydown Area. We executed the placement and compaction of structural fill across key development zones, incorporating geogrid reinforcement to improve subgrade stability and long-term performance.

Our works also included the construction of essential supporting infrastructure, such as a water sump, borrow pit, site access road and a site office laydown area.

Permanent fencing and gate installations were completed to secure the project boundary, along with the installation of drainage piping to manage stormwater flows.

Final trimming to design tolerances of the laydown area was completed using raw materials sourced on the island, ensuring readiness for subsequent construction phases.
